The Puente Hills fault and our Top Ten earthquake kit items!

Recent Activity of the Puente Hills Fault in California

On August 12 2024, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake originating from the Puente Hills Fault rattled the Los Angeles area, raising concerns among seismologists and residents alike. This fault, which runs beneath densely populated regions 25 miles from Glendale/Pasadena including downtown Los Angeles to Puente Hills, is considered more dangerous than the well-known San Andreas Fault due to its proximity to urban areas. The fault produced two small quakes in June and has the potential to produce a devastating earthquake of up to 7.5 magnitude, potentially resulting in significant casualties and widespread damage. This recent activity highlights the importance of preparedness as the fault becomes increasingly active.
